One way to make sure that the camping trip you have been planning for months turns out successful is having the right camping gear with you. Not only will this ensure you’re prepared enough to brave the great outdoors, but will also ensure that you enjoy your trip to the fullest. So today, come read our guide for your camping gear this 2021.
Starting with a checklist of camping or outdoor essentials is a great way to know which things to bring for your outdoor trip. But even then, making lists can get pretty overwhelming if you don’t know the first thing to pack. Especially if this is your first time. But worry not! I’m here to help you out.
More often than not, rookie campers make the mistake of underestimating Mother Nature. But Mother Nature can sometimes not be so…motherly. So it’s best that you come in prepared before starting your adventure.
When packing for your camping trip, knowing the necessities like tents, backpacks, and cookware are usually the top of most people’s list.
And those are pretty important gear to bring, but bringing other things like a portable Bluetooth speaker, a sports watch, a camping chair or table, and any other things that can really elevate your overall camping experience shouldn’t be overlooked too.
Each of these devices can enhance your comfortability or simply make your life easier out there. So to help you decide what sorts of equipment you should bring along, just keep on reading.
Camping Gear Buyer’s Guide
Make sure your camping gear is waterproof, dustproof, and weatherproof
One of the things you need to expect when camping in the great wilderness is weather changes. Even if the weather reports say that it will be sunny throughout your trip, the chance of rain is still possible. So ensuring that your equipment can survive an onslaught of water will be really nifty once the situation arises.
Aside from weather changes, you might also encounter accidents along the way. Such accidents can be your backpack getting submerged into a river or a puddle, or falling from a high place in the middle of your activities.
To prevent any important gear or devices from getting broken, better bring or buy the ones that are durable and sturdy enough to take on the wilderness.
Know what kinds of backpacks, tents, and cookware you need
Knowing the type of gear you need to bring for your next camping trip is important. Apart from that, also take into consideration the type of environment you will be staying in for the next few days or so.
Questions like how big do you need your tent to be? What type of backpack do you need to bring? Will you need insulation? A soft cooler? What about your cookware? These are just some of the few things you need to answer yourself to make sure that your checklist is fool-proof.
Not to mention, make sure you also keep in mind your equipment’s size and portability. Only bring what you can carry and what will fit in your campsite.
A quick search on Google will let you know all the sorts of camping equipment appropriate for your trip.
Now that you have an idea of the things you might need for your outdoor trip, you’re ready to set out on your big adventure! Pretty exciting, right? But the great outdoors can oftentimes be unpredictable. From unexpected weather changes, surprise visits from wild animals to plenty more other encounters you didn’t account for.
So to help you out, here are some helpful tips you might want to keep in mind so you can enjoy your camping trip with little to no stress.
Check the safety guidelines and protocols of your camping site
With the pandemic still ongoing, knowing the safety protocols of your chosen campsite is very important. Especially if the surrounding area has a surge of COVID-19 infections, it might be best to either postpone your trip or find another location.
If you have not chosen a campsite yet, I highly suggest avoiding popular sites and attractions to prevent camping with large crowds. Instead, you can save those for future trips.
However, if your chosen campsite is pretty clear, keeping in mind the area’s safety regulations and following them is still very much recommended. Masks are often required so packing a lot of them would be best.
Don’t forget to bring insect repellant and sunscreen
I cannot stress this enough but don’t ever forget to bring insect repellant and sunblock whenever you’re going on outdoor trips. Insect repellant and sunscreen are some of the few things that are always on the top of my packing list whenever I am going out regardless if the area is sunny or rainy.
This should be on yours too if you’re someone who gets sunburnt easily and if you don’t want a tick infestation to start. Having a good and reliable bottle of insect repellant would be an effective way to prevent the latter as well as avoiding any areas with a large population of ticks in general.
I’m sure you wouldn’t want to catch Lyme disease and this is something that ticks can potentially pass on to you if you are ever bitten.
Meanwhile, sunscreen is another important necessity when you’re spending a lot of time outdoors. Knowing to use the appropriate amount of sunscreen can help decrease the risk of sunburn and even skin cancer. And trust me, you wouldn’t want any of those getting in the way of your supposedly fun camping trip.
Learn first aid or bring a kit with you at all times
Accidents are some of the few things we can’t really avoid. Especially when we’re out and about doing outdoor activities like hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, etc., accidents are bound to happen. And that’s alright. But the least thing we could do is be prepared for them.
That’s why knowing first aid and bringing a kit wherever you go can be pretty useful. Not only will you be able to promptly treat your wounds, but first aid can be the difference between your cuts or scrapes from becoming infected or worse.
In addition, if you or someone else on your camping team acquires more serious injuries, first aid can still be helpful. It can help prevent any injuries from worsening while you wait for medical professionals to get to your site for more specialized treatment.
Know how to set up a tent properly
If you’re someone who struggles with setting up a tent whenever you’re out camping, then I highly suggest practicing with setting up your tent in your backyard a few weeks before you set out. One way to make sure that you won’t be sleeping out in the cold without a tent on your camping trip is by practicing at home.
Understandably, even with instructions laid out in front, some of you might still find things complicated. But that’s nothing to be ashamed of. We have all been there. Not everyone starts as a camping pro and even those “5-minute setups” advertisements for camping tents can sometimes even be a lot more difficult than you expected.
So practicing setting up your tent at home will make sure that you get the hang of things and know which parts go where. Not only that, but it will also strengthen your muscle memory and speed up the entire process of setting up your tent once you’re out in the wilderness.
Once you know how to set up your tent properly without fussing over tent poles, then you can finally call yourself a camping pro!
Wear the appropriate gear or attire for your camping activities
The great outdoors can often involve some pretty rough terrains. So making sure that you’re wearing a good pair of hiking boots or camping-appropriate attire will save you from any unnecessary complications later on. I’m pretty sure you don’t want to be complaining of spraints or any form of injuries due to wearing inappropriate gear.
Trust me, your camping adventure will be a lot more enjoyable and fuss-free without acquiring any of these.
Aside from having the right gear and equipment for your camping activities, make sure to pack the appropriate clothes for the weather or climate of your chosen camping site. Having a raincoat or a windbreaker handy in your backpack might also be quite useful in case of unexpected weather changes.
When it comes to choosing your desired campsite, it wouldn’t hurt to research about the inhabiting animals in the area. This will not only help you prepare but you will have an idea of what is lurking around your surroundings.
Knowing how to defend yourself from animals like bears, possums, snakes, and other wild animals might just save your life. It’s always important to remember that they’re the ones living there and you’re just visiting.
Conclusion
So now we have reached the end of this article and I only hope that you were able to take some of the tips here for your next camping adventure! Not only will this make sure that you’re well-prepared but you might also just have the time of your life.

If you’re someone who regularly goes to outdoor parties or engage in any type of outdoor activities such as camping, you might want to stay and take a look at this article. If you also happen to love music and are in the market for a Bluetooth speaker, then you definitely might be interested in our review of the JBL Xtreme 2 today.
JBL is no stranger when it comes to producing some of the best outdoor speakers in the market. Their signature rugged designs and waterproof builds and having top audio quality have been the go-to of so many people worldwide. But the Xtreme 2 is built specifically and recommended for outdoor use.
When it comes to portable Bluetooth speakers, one click on the Amazon website and you instantly get an endless supply of options. The same thing can be said with outdoor speakers as well. The market is so saturated with these kinds of devices that it can be pretty overwhelming picking just one.
However, when it comes to portability and having the capacity to be loud enough to accommodate a backyard party, this is where your options will significantly narrow down. You might still see many speakers, but knowing which one will deliver top-quality sounds can be tricky.
So with that in mind, let’s see if the JBL Xtreme 2 lives up to the hype in this dedicated review.
JBL is quite known for their top-notch portable speakers that are outdoor-friendly. This is thanks to the high-quality builds of their products that can take on and survive almost any outdoor environment.
Such situations can include complete submersion in water, resistance to dusty areas, and plenty of other circumstances you might encounter outdoors.
So whether you’re planning to do a lot of poolside activities or trekking across a river, JBL speakers are definitely one of the brands worth looking into if you like having music to listen to. That being said, let’s find out how the JBL Xtreme 2 fairs and see if it lives up to its brand’s reputation.
At first glance, the Xtreme 2 is a large boombox speaker that’s completely wireless. All you need to do is pair it up with your smartphone or tablet and you can start the party right away.
The very first thing you notice is its pretty bulky size. Usually, when we hear of portable Bluetooth speakers is that we expect them to be… well, portable. But despite being built like a tank and looking out of place in a sea of tiny speakers that can fit in one hand, the Xtreme 2 offers some of the best well-balanced sounds in the market.
Additionally, the Xtreme 2 also comes in with a strap that you can attach to the speaker for easy carrying rather than throwing it inside your backpack. This makes it perfect for on-the-go activities and with such an impressive battery life of 15 hours, partying all night can be possible.
Who is the JBL Xtreme 2 for?
The JBL Xtreme 2 is perfect for partygoers, campers, and any outdoor enthusiast who loves to have some music around wherever they go. Personally, the Xtreme 2 is mostly ideal if you’re camping in large groups or having outdoor parties that will require powerful sounding speakers for your music.
Extra Special Features: Waterproof, durable fabric and rugged material, can attach a strap to the speaker, and inclusion of a bottle cap remover along with the strap.
Here’s a breakdown of the features that we loved about the Xtreme 2 and why we think it’s one of the best outdoor speakers you can get your hands on right now.
It’s waterproof
Like all of JBL’s speakers, the Xtreme 2 is no different when it comes to being waterproof. In fact, the Xtreme 2 is completely submersible for up to 1 meter underwater. With an official IPX7 rating, you won’t have to worry about the Xtreme 2 in case it drops to a pool of water or accidentally gets splashed with liquids.
In addition to that, this particular Bluetooth speaker also floats! So you can easily just grab it from the surface of the water without having to dive into it.
Terrific audio quality
Obviously, one of the best things about the Xtreme 2 is its remarkable audio quality. Due to its size, the Xtreme can easily deliver loud sounds with great quality, full-sounding and powerful bass output that is unmatched by smaller-sized portable speakers. It also offers a good mid-range for those crisp and clear vocals and lead instuments.
Sturdy and solid build
One of the best things JBL is known for is their signature rugged designs that are made with great durability. The Xtreme 2 is no exception and it looks and feels very solid when carrying it around. The speakers itself are encased in an IPX7 rugged material that ensures waterproofing.
Personally, I find that the overall design works best for outdoor use rather than keeping it in the living room. Maybe because the rugged design of the Xtreme 2 won’t look that good against my interior. But at the end of the day, it’s your personal preference. The Xtreme 2 is a pretty versatile speaker that can amp up a large party, regardless if it’s indoor or outdoor.
Our Least Favorite Things
Just like with any great product, there’s no such thing as perfection. You’re bound to see some flaws here and there. So here are some of the things we weren’t a big fan of with the Xtreme 2.
Not the most portable speaker to carry around
In an age where less is more, the JBL Xtreme 2’s chunky size seems a little outdated. Boomboxes aren’t that widely used anymore and most people have left those types of speakers decades ago. Overall, I find the design very in-your-face. Which isn’t completely a bad thing, depending on who you’re asking.
Nevertheless, I can almost forgive the Xtreme 2’s bulky design for the fact that it’s able to deliver loud sounds at great quality while pumping out powerful bass responses thanks to its size.
Not very budget-friendly
If you’re on a tight budget you’re unwilling to stretch when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, then the Xtreme 2 might not be for you. Admittedly, the $200 price point seems a little extreme for me as well. But thankfully, there are definitely more affordable options out there.
It’s completely up to you whether you think the Xtreme is worth the splurge or not.
In A Nutshell
Now that we have finished breaking down what we loved and disliked about the Xtreme 2, here is a narrowed-down list of the good and the bad with this particular portable Bluetooth speaker from JBL.
Pros
Can produce loud sounds that are clear and crisp.
Rugged and durable design that’s waterproof.
Well-rounded and solid bass output.
Loud enough to accommodate a large outdoor party.
15-hour battery life.
Cons
Has a bigger size compared to other portable speakers in the market.
Expensive.
The Final Verdict
Overall, the JBL Xtreme 2 is truly a Bluetooth speaker worth checking out if you’re in the market for a portable speaker for your next outdoor adventure.
You already know when it comes to producing audio quality, JBL rarely misses on this aspect. That’s why they’re one of the top brands in the market after all and the Xtreme 2 is no exception to that. It gives clear and loud sounds enough to amp up an outdoor party. But what really makes them stand out is how solidly built their speakers are.
Its rugged design makes it very durable and sturdy while being completely waterproof. It also floats so you don’t have to worry about losing this in deeper bodies of water or if it accidentally slips during a pool party. So safe to say, this speaker is tough enough to survive most outdoor environments.
Apart from that, despite its bulky size, the Xtreme 2 comes with a strap you can sling across your body so you don’t have to squeeze this chunky thing inside your backpack or carry it with your hands. Plus, it also has a bottle cap remover attached to its strap. Pretty handy, right?
While admittedly, it’s definitely a bit on the pricier end of things, this portable Bluetooth speaker might still be worth your while if you give it a proper chance.
Do you already own the JBL Xtreme 2 or still on the fence about it? How was the experience for you? In the comments section below, let me know if you have any insights or suggestions to add to this review. I would love to hear your thoughts!
Multisport watches are great investments for any outdoor sports enthusiast. Even dedicated athletes can benefit a lot from strapping these wearables around their wrists. So for today, let’s take a closer look at one of the best multisport watches money can buy, the Garmin Fenix 5x Sapphire.
While outdoor sports seem like the most unlikely thing to do in the middle of a pandemic, it definitely doesn’t stop a lot of people from engaging in such activities. As we slowly return to our normal routines, more and more people are going back to their old habits again.
I can imagine our fellow fitness enthusiasts and athletes just itching to go back to running, hiking, and other outdoor activities to feel the fresh air hit their faces again. And I can understand why.
Working out inside four walls or at home alternatives just doesn’t feel the same as being able to climb the tops of mountains and feeling the intensity of going through and overcoming a rough terrain.
So if you’re someone who is going back to their active lifestyles and planning their next outdoor adventure, you might want to take a look at our review of Garmin’s best multisports GPS watch, the Fenix 5X Sapphire. Who knows? This might just find its way at the top of your outdoor essentials list.
To cut to the chase, the Garmin Fenix 5x Sapphire is probably hands-down the best multisport watch you can get your hands on right now. In terms of activity and performance tracking and GPS-based mapping, it really has little to no competition in the market. If there was, this particular wearable will still be most favored.
For quite some time now, the Fenix 5X Sapphire has been widely praised for its premium rugged design, impressive features ranging from activity, performance, and fitness tracking, and terrific battery life.
And with such a wide array of features including onboard GPS mapping, multi-sports tracking, storm alerts, a built-in pulse oximeter, smartphone notifications, and much more, I don’t see anyone getting tired of this wearable anytime soon.
To put it simply, the Fenix 5X Sapphire is the culmination of all the features we came to know and love about Garmin watches. It took a long time for them to perfect this and safe to say, all that waiting was worth it.
But every great product doesn’t come without flaws. One of the few things to keep in mind is that their smartphone notifications aren’t that polished. Basically, you can only receive messages and calls but you won’t be able to answer or reply to them. You will still need to whip out your phone for that.
Another thing is that there is very limited customization on the notifications you want to receive. You can only either receive them all or turn them off completely.
I don’t find these things that big of a deal especially if you’re here for the Fenix 5X Sapphire’s onboard mapping and activity tracking, but it would definitely be nice if Garmin worked on polishing those other features as well.

What We Love About The Garmin Fenix 5X Sapphire
Now let me give you a breakdown of the features that we love about the Fenix 5X Sapphire and why I think this is the best multisports watch up to date.
GPS Mapping
One of the best selling points of the Fenix 5X Sapphire is its onboard GPS mapping. Aside from its ability to track your activities and your whereabouts quite accurately, this particular wearable also allows you to download GPX files of maps right onto your device.
This way, you can have a plethora of routes to choose from for your next outdoor activities such as cycling, running, jogging, and so much more. Additionally, this also helps in making navigating around these areas a lot easier for you.
Fitness, Performance, & Activity Tracking
Garmin is one of the best when it comes to activity tracking. It’s what they are known for. So it comes as no surprise that the Fenix 5X Sapphire performs just as splendidly.
To sum it all up, you get a wide range of onboard sensors that include GPS, GLONASS, pulse oximeter, a compass, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, barometric altimeter, thermometer, and optical heart rate (HR).
In addition to that, this wearable also measures workouts pretty well. Such sports include your basics like swimming, cycling, running, and more unique workouts like yoga, etc. can be tracked pretty accurately.
As you already know, no product is perfect and we’re bound to find a few flaws here and there even with our most favorite devices. So here are some of the things we weren’t a big fan of with the Fenix 5X Sapphire.
Bulky
If you’re larger than the average-sized person, you might not encounter this particular problem. But for most people, you might find that the Fenix 5X Sapphire is quite bulky and feels chunky around the wrist.
Understandably, comfortability comes down to one’s personal preference but I definitely can see this becoming a problem for some people. It might even be a dealbreaker for some of you if you prioritize comfort more than anything else.
Aside from comfortability, a bulky watch around your wrist is also prone to get caught in your sleeves or your backpack straps. And I don’t know about you, but that would give me a certain level of annoyance that I could live without.
Thankfully, Garmin listens to their users’ pleas and they were able to remedy and address the size issue by sizing down the watch through their next models in the same lineup.
So if you find the Fenix 5X Sapphire too big for your wrist but really want to enjoy its impressive features, you can look for other options in Garmin’s Fenix lineup.
Expensive
Another thing that holds back the Fenix 5X Sapphire is its very pricy price tag.
While I think the Fenix 5X Sapphire is one of those devices that are worth the splurge, especially with the number of onboard features you’re getting, the expensive price point is understandably not for everyone.
At the end of the day, people have set budgets on what they’re willing to spend and if you think that this wearable comes at too high of a price, then there are definitely much more affordable options in the market for you out there.
In A Nutshell
Now that we have finished discussing the things we loved and disliked about the Fenix 5X Sapphire, here is a narrowed-down list of the good and the bad with this multisport watch.
Pros
Excellent range of features for activity and fitness tracking as well as sports-related features.
On-board GPS mapping.
Attractive rugged and premium design.
Has a built-in pulse oximeter for measuring your blood oxygen levels.
Impressive battery life that can last up to 2 weeks if GPS use is lessened.
Cons
The watch feels a little heavy or chunkier than your usual activity tracker or wearable. Especially if you’re average-sized or smaller than average.
Price point is in the expensive side.
Very limited notification customization.
Final Verdict:
Overall, despite having a few flaws here and there, the Garmin Fenix 5X Sapphire still remains supreme as one of the best multisport watches in the industry. It shines in terms of activity and fitness tracking. This is the type of watch that looks out for you once you get into more intense training sessions or sports activities.
While it’s undeniably on the pricer end of things, I think this is a pretty great investment if you’re serious about your outdoor activities. You really won’t get the same extensive GPS mapping from anywhere else. If you can spare the money, why look for anything less, right?
So if sports and an active lifestyle are some things you value, this multisports watch is totally worth it.

From cool accessories that’ll keep your devices charged up to large tents that will make you feel like you’re the king of the wilds, this well-rounded list is filled with wilderness essentials that deserve a place in your packing list.
Without further ado, let’s read on to find out more.
Quick Camping Tips
Camping is one of the many ways to bond with your family, friends, or just to have that quiet and peaceful alone time with yourself. But heading off to spend a few days with Mother Nature might not be as easy as it sounds. Especially for our fellow beginner campers out there.
While camping is a good stress reliever, it can also easily turn into a nightmare filled with unexpected weather changes, unwarranted visits from wild animals, collapsing tents, and so much more.
To make sure that you get the best possible experience with Mother Nature, here are some camping tips that might be useful for your next outdoor adventure.
Learn first aid or bring a first aid kit
Accidents are something we can’t really avoid, especially when we’re out and about doing camping activities like hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, etc. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be well-prepared for them.
Having an idea on how to do first aid or bringing a first aid kit are pretty useful tools to have when you’re having an outdoor adventure. Because then we can prevent any wounds, cuts, or scrapes from getting possible infections and have it properly bandaged up.
In general, knowing first aid is just really handy when it comes to quickly respond to unexpected accidents and incidents that involve injuries. This way, when these kinds of situations arise, they can be promptly and efficiently dealt with to prevent further worsening.
If you or someone else in your camping team acquires more serious injuries, first aid can still be helpful while you wait for medical professionals to get to your site for more specialized treatment.
Know how to set up a tent properly
Some of you might already know how to properly set up your tents, especially the more experienced campers. But for our fellow beginners who are just starting their adventures with Mother Nature, setting up a tent can sometimes be a tricky situation.
Even with instructions laid out in front of you, some of you might still find things complicated. But that’s nothing to be ashamed of. We have all been there. Not everyone starts as a camping pro and even those “5-minute setups” for camping tents can sometimes even be a lot more difficult than you expected.
But not to worry! One way to make sure that you won’t be sleeping in your sleeping bag without a tent on your camping adventure is by practicing at home.
Practicing setting up your tent at home will make sure that you get the hang of things and know which parts go where. Not only that, but it will also strengthen your muscle memory and speed up the entire process of setting up your tent once you’re out there.
This is pretty useful if you only have a few minutes of sunlight left and you won’t be wasting that time figuring out and fussing over tent poles.
Beware of wild animals
When choosing your desired campsite, it wouldn’t hurt to research about the inhabiting animals in the area. So you can be prepared and well-equipped in the case that they decide to visit you.
But most animals are pretty harmless and are just curious. So defending yourself from our furry friends shouldn’t be too much hard work. Just make sure that your campsite is clean and there is no food in sight.
However, bears are something to be cautious of. If the campsite is known for bear sightings, then it’s best to bring some very effective bear spray with you.
But most species of bears don’t really attack unprovoked. Black bears are quite timid actually and will most likely leave you alone if you assert yourself, act aggressive, make a lot of noise, and have a trekking pole or rocks nearby to fend it off in case it attacks.
Meanwhile, grizzly bears tend to see humans as a threat, so it’s best to do the opposite. Not making any sudden movements, curling up on the ground, and playing dead is usually an effective way for grizzly bears to leave your campsite.
Other animals like raccoons, possums, snakes, and wildcats are also often found visiting campsites. But they’re a lot smaller and much easier to fend off. But whatever animal you might come across in the wilderness, it’s best to do some ample research about them to avoid any unwanted situations.
Keep in mind, they’re actually the ones living there and you’re just a tourist. So be careful.
Don’t forget to bring insect repellant and sunscreen
Insect repellant and sunscreen are some of the few things that are always on the top of my packing list. This should be too if you’re someone who gets sunburnt easily and if you don’t want a tick infestation to start.
So having a good and reliable bottle of insect repellant would be an effective way to prevent the latter. Wearing high socks and avoiding any tall grass would be great options as well. But ultimately, not camping in an area with a large tick population is the best choice to avoid any ticks cling to your skin.
Lyme disease is no joke and this is something ticks can pass on to you if you get bitten.
Meanwhile, sunscreen is another necessity when you’re spending a lot of time in the outdoors. Using the appropriate amount of sunscreen can help decrease the risk of sunburn and even skin cancer. And trust me, you wouldn’t want any of those getting in the way of your supposedly fun camping trip.
Wear the appropriate attire
And no, I don’t mean bring a suit and tie for your next camping trip. When I say wear the appropriate attire, I meant that you should wear the proper gear for camping activities. As you already know, the great outdoors can often involve some pretty rough terrains.
So making sure that you’re wearing a good pair of hiking boots or just the generally appropriate clothes for camping will save you from any unnecessary pains later on. This can be in the form of sprains, blisters, cuts, or scrapes. And I doubt you would want that.
While they’re not a big deal for some of you, your camping adventure will be a lot more enjoyable and fuss-free without acquiring any of these.
Aside from having the right gear and equipment for your camping activities, make sure to pack the appropriate clothes for the weather or climate of your chosen camping site. Having a raincoat or a windbreaker handy in your backpack might also be quite useful in case of unexpected weather changes.

Make sure it’s waterproof, dustproof, and weatherproof
One of the things you need to expect when camping is unexpected weather changes. Even if the current season is summer, rainy days are bound to happen from time to time. So it’s very important that you make sure that your chosen equipment can survive the water.
Aside from weather changes, you might also encounter accidents along the way. Such accidents can be your backpack or equipment getting submerged into a river or a puddle, or falling from a high place.
To prevent any important gear or gadgets from getting broken, it’s best to bring along or buy the ones that are durable enough to survive the wilderness.
Consider the battery life of your devices
Another thing you shouldn’t overlook is the battery life of your devices. The last thing you want is your smartphone or laptop or sports watch dying out in the middle of something important.
Though some of you might say that technology is not necessary when you’re camping, some of you might still prefer using them for other purposes such as taking pictures, for emergencies, and other things.
If possible, you can also opt to bring a power bank or a portable generator just in case of such scenarios.
Size & Portability
When it comes to packing your camping essentials, one of the most important things to take into account is the size and portability of your items. So when you’re shopping for your camping equipment, make sure that they’re light enough, ergonomic, and will not bring problems later on in terms of carrying them around.
When you’re the type of camper who loves to move around, heavy equipment might put a strain on your body and you might not be able to enjoy your trip as much. So to ensure maximum comfortability, get only the things that are portable and easy to transport.

Decades from now, if you found yourself having difficulty sleeping, your choices of improving it would have been quite limited. Either you track your sleeping habits manually by jotting them down on your journal or set an appointment for a doctor’s visit. But over the past recent years, sleep monitoring devices have come a long way.
So if you find yourself wanting to have an idea regarding your sleeping habits and patterns or simply want to improve your difficulty in sleeping, a sleep tracking device might be of great help to you. But where do you even begin?
With so many options in the market, from all-in-one smartwatches, sensor pads, wearable rings, chest, and head straps, it’s understandable if you told me you’re already overwhelmed with the choices. But not to worry, I’m here to help you out.
Here’s a buyer’s guide on how to shop for the best sleep tracker for you. Read on to find out more.
In essence, a sleep tracker is a device that monitors and measures your sleeping patterns, habits, and overall sleep quality overnight. It uses its built-in sensors and tools to detect your movements, heart rate, skin temperature, and even external environmental factors that can have a hand in contributing to your sleep quality.
Some data may also include the duration of your overall sleep as well as how long you were in different stages of your sleep such as your light, deep, and REM sleep.
All of this information is measured throughout your nocturnal activity at night then provided to you in the morning once you wake up. Some sleep trackers also give you the option to save your data so you can opt to report it to your doctor once you meet with them for a checkup.
More advanced sleep trackers may also have additional features like providing soothing and relaxing sounds for you to ease you into sleep. Then some sleep trackers are built for maximum comfort so that these devices won’t mess with the quality of your sleep or get in the way of a good night’s rest.
How It Works
Sleep trackers work in mysterious ways. Jokes aside, sleep trackers can actually detect and monitor your sleeping patterns and habits in a number of ways. Below are some examples of how sleep trackers measure your sleep quality:
Heart Rate
Most sleep trackers in the market have the ability to measure your heart rate. It’s actually the most common way for these devices to monitor your sleeping patterns.
In some cases, when it comes to more high-end sleep trackers, they can also measure your heart rate variability (HRV) and your respiratory rate or cardio activity. While heart rate monitoring alone isn’t enough to provide you a full data regarding your sleeping habits, it does help in increasing its accuracy for better results.
Moreover, some sleep trackers also have the ability to measure your SpO2 levels in order to track potential problems like sleep apnea.
Skin Temperature
Another way for sleep trackers to monitor your patterns is by measuring your skin temperature at night. This feature isn’t entirely too common in most sleep trackers and is only usually seen in more high-end brands.
To put it simply, your body temperature when you’re asleep can be used to measure and estimate your sleep-wake rhythms on a broader scale.
Your Movements & Environmental Factors
Some sleep trackers also have the ability to detect your movements at night as well as external environmental factors.
How often you twist and turn in your sleep, your room’s temperature, and your exposure to light and ambient noises can all play a part in your overall sleep quality. With such detailed information, you can have an idea of what might be affecting your difficulties in sleeping.
Like the measurement of your body temperature, these features are often found in more expensive brands of sleep trackers.
You might have already taken a peek at the Amazon website and found so many different types of sleep trackers listed on their page. And it can be quite an overwhelming sight too. But don’t worry! From all sorts of sleep tracking wearables to sensor pads or strips, let me break down the different kinds of sleep trackers for you.
Wearables
Wearables are one of the most common types of sleep trackers in the market. They also have the most unique designs. They can range from wristwatches, headbands, chest straps, or even rings.
However, you might also find them the more obstructive option for sleep trackers. Since you have to wear them to bed, you might feel a little bit of discomfort. Though at the end of the day, comfortability is up to your personal preference.
Sensor Pads & Strips
Another common type of sleep tracker is sensor pads or strips. They’re also known as the “non-wearables”.
They’re the less obstructive option compared to wearables and are more ideal in my opinion. All you have to do is slip these devices below or on top of your mattress and you’re good to go. They have a lesser possibility of getting in the way of your sleep and you won’t have to worry about it sliding off of you while you slumber.
What To Look For In A Sleep Tracker
With so many sleep monitoring devices being produced and released into the market, finding one that will work for you can be quite daunting. So to help you out in that area, here are some of the things you need to consider so you can make an informed purchasing decision.
When it comes to sleep trackers, accuracy is one of the most important things you need to consider. As you know, each brand out there has its own unique technology built into its sleep tracking devices. This helps them track and monitor your sleeping patterns more accurately.
So it’s best to find out if a certain sleep tracker is accurate enough or not by doing research regarding the tools and sensors they use. It’s important to know that some sleep trackers might have really gimmicky features that don’t provide significant data or any contribution at all.
Data Quality
The data quality you get from your sleep tracker shouldn’t be overlooked as well. It’s important that the data you’re receiving from your sleep tracker is detailed enough and easy to understand. If the data you’re getting is too complicated, it will be quite difficult for you to have an idea of how to make adjustments to your sleeping habits.
Comfortability
The comfort of use is very important when it comes to the sleep tracking you are eyeing. Especially when the main reason we are getting one for ourselves is to have an idea of how to improve our difficulties in sleeping. So getting an uncomfortable sleep tracker that will just make it uneasy for you wouldn’t make sense at all.
That being said, I highly recommend testing out which one makes you comfortable the most when you’re lying in bed. With so many options to choose from in the market, you are sure to find one that will work for you.
Personally, sleeping tracking sensor pads are what I deem the most comfortable type of sleep trackers. They’re the most unobstructive and you don’t have to wear them going to bed. Just slip them below or above your mattress and then they’ll do the rest of the work for you.
But if you prefer wearables, those can work too. Just make sure that they don’t get in the way of your beauty sleep.
Additional Features
Some sleep trackers in the market offer additional features that might be useful for a lot of you. Usually, wearables like smartwatches can also provide fitness and activity tracking features during the day. Then, there are some that offer meditation guides to raise your mindfulness which can improve your overall lifestyle.
This all comes down to personal preference though. If you like all-in-one products, it could be worthwhile to check out these types of sleep trackers.
Overall, I think a good sleep tracking device can be the difference between a good night’s rest from a sleepless night. It’s all up to you whether you think these devices would be a good investment regarding your sleeping problems or not.
Some people who don’t deal with a lot of problems when it comes to their sleeping habits just want to be in tune with their sleeping patterns and so they use these sleep trackers.
But whether you just want to have a closer insight into your sleeping patterns or you actually want to get an idea of why you’re having trouble with sleeping, a sleep tracker might prove helpful in providing you with some proficient and helpful data.
However, having that kind of information in your hands shouldn’t mean that you should entirely replace a doctor’s appointment with a monitoring device. A sleep tracker will just simply aid you and give you reports which you can show to your doctor so they can have an idea regarding your situation.
Do you already own a sleep tracker? Or are you still deciding and on the fence about it? Let me know if you have any suggestions, questions, or remarks regarding sleep trackers in the comments section below. I would love to hear your thoughts!
